Frequently Asked Questions

How can I schedule a free lesson?

It’s easy. Please complete the “Let’s Start Learning!” form. Choose the date and time that works best. When you get to the payments page, add the coupon code TRYEDNOW. The lesson will be free.

What are the lessons like?

A typical ZOOM lesson begins with an introduction to new vocabulary words. The student will then read a short story and answer some comprehension lessons. Next we will study various English topics, including grammar, language arts, phonics, and more. This part of the lesson helps students build skills. It will be customized to the student’s special needs. In the final part of the lesson, I will ask the student to write a sentence about a picture. If necessary, we will correct any errors and expand the sentence to include more information. Depending on the student’s level, we will identify the parts of speech for each word in the sentence. We may have time for a second picture and sentence or vocabulary review, whichever is most important for the student.

Lessons for students who are preparing for an exam will work on specific test questions that the student might encounter.

Lessons for students needing tutoring for homework assignments will depend on the homework provided.

How do you teach older and more advanced students?

Each lesson is adjusted to the student’s level. The material for older and more advanced students is more challenging. If the student is already skilled at writing sentences, we will write paragraphs. Over multiple lessons we might even write a story or a short essay. Special skills are necessary to write paragraphs, stories, and essays. The lesson will include topics to help the student develop those special skills. Everything is customized to the student’s level regardless of age.

Do you offer tutoring lessons to help with homework assignments?

Yes! We can help your student with homework. Select Tutoring when booking a lesson. Please send us any assignment materials prior to the lesson to help us prepare. We will work with your student to complete the homework, and we will expand on the topics in the homework to make sure that your student understands the concepts being taught.

Do you offer lessons to help prepare for college admission tests like SAT?

Yes! We can help your student prepare for the SAT and the ACT. For foreign students we can also help you prepare for TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) and IELTS (International English Language Testing System). When you book your class, you will be asked to select the lesson type.  Choose Custom English Lesson if you are not prepping for an exam.

Will my student have a regular weekly class time?

Yes. You can book multiple lessons as often as you like. When completing the booking form, simply choose “Yes” when asked “Do you want to repeat this appointment?” You will then have options to customize the time and frequency. If you book 5 or more classes, you will receive a coupon for 15% off all future lessons.

How are payments made?

We offer PayPal and Stripe for secure online payments. Payment is part of the booking process. With Stripe, payments can be made using Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, Diners, China Union Pay (CUP), or Japan Credit Bureau (JCB).

What happens if my student is unable to attend a class?

No problem. Just give us 24-hour notice, if you want to cancel or reschedule a lesson. We understand that vacations and family events can conflict with a particular class time. Rescheduling depends on availability. We strive to be as flexible as possible. There is no charge for rescheduling or skipping a lesson with a 24-hour notice.

What times are available for class?

We offer lessons seven days a week from 6:00 AM  to 8:00 PM U.S. Eastern Standard time. Choosing your class time depends on availability. if you don’t see a convenient time, contact us. We often add time slots to make special arrangements. Just let us know and we will make every effort to accomodate you.

Will I receive a report about how my student performed?

Yes. After each lesson we will send you a summary of how your student performed in each part of the lesson. The report will also list some vocabulary words that your student should work on between lessons.

Is there a textbook we can use to prepare?

Since every lesson is customized for the student, there is not a single textbook that would be helpful. We use material from a variety of sources and often create our own custom educational material. We tailor everything to the student.
